We’re all for games that connect features to create a sense of progression, and that’s exactly what Iron Dog Studio seems to have gone for with Rainbow Wilds Megaways.
There’s a particular emphasis on wild symbols, of which there are three variations across both the base game and free spins. They have their wild multiplier which can be crossed with the tumble multiplier to create some of the biggest wins in the game.
We enjoyed the way Iron Dog Studio replaced scatter symbols with the tumble feature. Instead of landing three or more identical scatters to access free spins, you’ll need to get four consecutive wins through the tumble feature. It’s easier said than done and it took us well over 100 spins before we finally managed to access the bonus feature.
Wilds – You get three different wild symbols in the Rainbow Wilds Megaways slot. The regular symbols land on reels two to six and can come with a 1x multiplier. On the other hand, Wild Mushrooms land on reels three or four and randomly transform up to three symbols into wilds on reels two to five. The wild mushroom also increased regular wild multipliers by another 1x. Last but not least are the Sticky Wilds that land on reels two to four during free spins. Their multipliers start at x1 and increase by another x1 with every tumble sequence. Wild symbols, particularly Wild Mushrooms, brought most of the action to the table. They formed part of most of our wins and were crucial in landing consecutive wins through to the tumble feature before we finally got to free spins.
Tumble Feature – After landing a win, winning symbols are removed from the reels, and new symbols tumble from the top of the reels to replace them. There is no limit to the number of tumbles you can get, and they could theoretically go on forever. The idea is to land four consecutive tumbles to get to free spins. However, we found it quite hard to keep the momentum going with this tumble feature. If it weren’t for the wild symbols that kept showing up in the nick of time, we would have possibly never reached the free spin rounds.
Free Spins – You get eight free spins that can be prolonged to a maximum of 22. Four consecutive tumbles add two more free spins, with each additional tumble adding yet another two bonus rounds to your tally. You also get an additional two free spins for every four consecutive losses. The biggest addition we enjoyed from free spins was the global multiplier that increased with each new tumble. The multiplier never resets, and we even managed to bring it up to x10 during one of our bonus rounds.
Buy Feature – If you want to jump straight into the free spins action, you can purchase eight or ten free spins for the price of 85x and 115x your stake, respectively.
Rainbow Wilds Megaways never quite managed to hit its mark. For the most part, the slot feels incredibly bare, with only a handful of wild symbols to pump in any form of excitement along the way.
Yes, the 12,000x maximum win could make this a viable option for experienced players, but there are much better Megaways games to enjoy out there.
iSoftBet’s Aztec Gold Megaways similarly sticks to a simple set of features, while adding in respins and jackpot prizes. We’re fans of the high-paying symbols here and enjoyed chasing after the maximum win of up to 19,200x your stake.
If you’re hoping for a slot that packs in more special features, be sure to check out Red Tiger Gaming’s Dragon’s Fire Megaways. Its long list of features includes a cascade feature, cascade multiplier, multiplier boost and free spins. The win potential is still a bit limited at 10,470x, but this is still easily one of the most enjoyable Megaways games we’ve played.
